Drill for tuning?

Post by Pete Martin »

After changing all 24 strings of my T8 Stringmaster, I am looking at a powered screwdriver and a tuning machine bit.

Anyone do this? What do you recommend for a powered screwdriver portable and light enough to fit in your gig bag but have enough power for the job?

I recently bought one from a company called WORX that I am very happy with. I think it is about $40 from amazon. It is WAY better than the powered winder I bought from Ernie Ball a few years ago. It won't come with the tuner socket of course, which can be bought separately from Sweetwater. This tool really speeds up string changes, and it is easy to control the speed.

I've got an inexpensive Black & Decker screwdriver that stays on the charger, don't know how it would hold a charge out in the wild. And several plastic peg-winder bits. I don't know how you changed all 24 strings without one!
