Re: Fender Tonemaster FR-12
I have one and really like it. This is FRFR type of amplifier which means the response is to replicate what you would hear in a studio monitor.
I have the Kemper Profiler player as the input source and am happy with the sound I get on stage as it is very close to what I hear in the studio. I have not plugged my steel directly into the amp although that is an interesting thought.
I would be glad to answer any other questions that you might have.

Re: Fender Tonemaster FR-12
I use a Tonemaster FR-12 all the time for pedal steel live performances. The highs are pristine and unlike those from a single 12 or 15-inch speaker. The direct output is unchanged by the controls on top of the FR-12. The average sound engineer would not be happy putting two microphones on the amp, but I read that a microphone 16 inches from the speaker is ideal. I set my Tonex One to accommodate this and leave the top controls flat. With a volume pedal in between the steel and the Tonex One, the preset must be set to maximum volume at the end of the software chain.
To my delight, the FR-10 also has enough base and power for pedal steel and is more compact.

Re: Fender Tonemaster FR-12
I’ve tried the Fr-12 and Fr-10 with my Kemper profiler. I ended up going with the Fr-10 because it’s just as loud, more compact, and sounds great. Would highly recommend if you’re playing though a digital rig. The FR-12 is definitely boomier but that’s not necessarily a good thing. I leave the top controls flat and adjust EQ on the Kemper.
