Tucked away on Estonia’s quiet Muhu Island, veteran guitarist Tõnu Timm has spent nearly five decades developing a deeply personal,self-taught playing style. Best known for his work with long-running Estonian band Jäääär, Timm’s musical journey has expanded over the years to include lap steel, Weissenborn (including baritone), pedal steel, banjo, and mandolin — many of which feature prominently in his recordings.
His latest release marks a new chapter: a fully instrumental solo album blending folk and country influences across 15 short, expressive tracks. Timm recorded most of the parts himself in his home studio, occasionally joined by visiting musician friends. The album features
9 original compositions, four beloved Estonian melodies, Irish traditional “The Britches Full Of Stitches“ and one American classic — “Redskin Rag.”
Rooted in curiosity and shaped far from formal instruction, Timm’s style offers something quietly distinct — a fresh take for listeners and fellow musicians alike.
