Sho-Bud knee levers HELP!

Post by Luke Player »

Hey all,

I’ve got a beautiful early round front Sho~Bud Pro II (1973 I believe) with rack and barrel setup.
I love this thing but it only has 2 knee levers (RKL & LKL)- I’ve looked far and wide and simply cannot find spare parts or kits I need for a RKR or LKR so I’ve decided to buy the individual parts from PSGparts or another similar site and install myself. I’ve also had to come to terms that I won’t be able to match it 100% authentically (teardrop levers haven’t been available for some months now)

The only thing is PSGs being so rare in Aus I can’t simply look at another steel to see what parts I need- I’ve only got web photos to go off which are a little hard to see clearly.
I’m asking for help from the wealth of knowledge on this site- if anyone can give me a list of the individual parts needed I’d be very appreciative, if anyone could advise on installation that’d be even greater.

Thanks a lot!

Thanks! I’ve DM’d, but still need to know the other parts that I may need to set it up!

Anyone following, i'm mainly wondering what happens here (outline in the photo below)
Most photos are from this angle and make it hard to see what's going on.
I've already got my head around crossbars, 2 hole pullers and barrels behind pullers after changing my copedent, but missing the intel for these other parts of the knee levers.

I'm also assuming the setup for both the RKR and LKR are the same construction as they're essentially doing the same movement/function- anyone free to correct me if i'm wrong?

If you are in Melbourne Luke you could try Seamus O’Sullivan or Ben Franz, they both have older ShoBuds and may be able to help.

Hi Luke as far as the picture and how it works; The tear drop lever is mounted to a cross shaft that has two fingers welded to it one on each end. The Knee Lever is attached to the finger closes to the back of the guitar and the finger sits at 12 oclock the second finger on the other end of the shaft is set at 3 oclock that finger is attached to the cross shaft with a small bar that can swivel as the parts move. the cross shaft has another finger that is at 9 oclock and mounted under the end of the knee lever shaft 3 oclock finger as the knee lever is pushed to the right the 3 oclock finger rises which pulls up the 9 oclock finger on the cross shaft this action causes the cross shaft to rotate away from the changer or Reverse the direction of the Knee Lever Direction
