Volume Pedal.....Wide Open or Not

I'm not even a mediocre player, especially not these days (busy doing lots of other things), but I did learn how to use a volume pedal very early on. There was a bit of pumping going on in the very beginning, but it sounded immediately wrong to my ears – and I could not hear it any of the records I tried to ape. So I quickly figured out how to use it correctly, and wouldn't want to play with the volume pedal full on at any time – that would feel just as wrong as removing a couple of pedals, levers or even strings, severely limiting the expressive possibilities of the PSG. BTW, the pumping sound can often be heard when "underarm" guitar players (good ones too) use a VP, especially when they're playing standing.
